A Response to Executive Actions Against Our Students

Amidst a flurry of federal actions designed to disorient and thrust communities into despair, we must remain clear-eyed and focused on the path forward. The fact remains that students have a right to education, legally guaranteed—for all—without discrimination. And we have an obligation to protect, respect, and fulfill that right. 

The Campaign for College Opportunity is unwavering in our belief that every student deserves to feel safe and welcomed on their campuses, irrespective of their background or status. As school districts and college campuses across the state reaffirm their commitment as safe havens, California policymakers must act with urgency to protect and defend our students. 

California, as a sanctuary state, can continue to courageously confront these blatant attacks on our most vulnerable communities, upholding the values of equity, opportunity, inclusion, and belonging in higher education. We are proud to stand on the frontline of the resistance, committed to protecting the rights of all students, ensuring that they are not only able to exist but to thrive, free from the threat of discrimination or exclusion. We are unyielding in fighting back against federal overreach, deciphering fact from fiction, and standing up for all of our students.  

The Campaign for College Opportunity calls upon our allies and partners to continue to stay focused in the fight for the protections and resources that all California students deserve. Together, we must harness our collective power to protect and uplift our undocumented students, low-income students, and historically underrepresented students. The time is now.
