"Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom." - George Washington Carver
Carlos is from Porterville, California in the Central Valley. He is the first in his family to graduate high school, is system-impacted, and from a mixed-status household. Currently, he attends the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he is pursuing a double-major in Economics and Sociology.
After serving as student body president at Porterville College for two years and a quarter as a congressional intern in the UCDC program, Carlos was inspired to leverage his experiences to become involved in advocacy efforts around immigration, education, and carceral system reformation. All are areas that have intersected his life and have been barriers that he has overcome to get where he is today.
